Tips for buying a drum set for kids
If you are in the market for buying a drum set for kids, take a look at
the following tips to help you make the right purchase. There are a few
factors that should be taken into consideration when buying a drum set
for children. This process may take a little effort but it will be well worth
your time. We will explore some areas that will aid in your decision
making.
What is the age of the young drummer?
This is an important question due to factors such as the size and price of
the drum set. Regarding size, it may or may not be obvious to you when
buying a set, to make sure it is not too big or too small for the child. Do
keep in mind that children are different in their stages of growth. If you
have access to a kids set (try a music store), have the child sit in position
for playing. You will want to make sure that their feet can reach
comfortably on the kick drum and hi-hat pedals, the snare drum
positioned waist high and he/she can easily reach the rack and floor
toms with drumsticks.
If a drum kit is not accessible and is being purchased, for example, as a
surprise gift, you might consider a 12-14" diameter bass drum for a child
3-7 years old and a 16" diameter bass drum for children 8-12 years old.
The drum set-up
Once you have determined the right sized bass drum, the rest of the
drums accompanying the drum set should be in relative proportion to
the bass drum, providing that you are buying the set as a whole. The
basic drum set-up will consists of a snare drum, 1 rack tom, 1 floor tom,
kick drum, hi-hat stand and cymbals, 1 cymbal stand and cymbal, and
a kick pedal. Drum sticks may or may not come with the package.
Drum set prices and where to buy
The prices of kids drum sets will vary from one manufacturer to another.
They will range anywhere from $99 up to $300. You can purchase
drum kits from your local music store or online. You might find a better
selection online with awesome savings and deals. Some sites may also
offer free shipping over a certain amount of purchase. In any event, by
following the basic tips outlined, you will be prepared in your quest for a
kids drum set.
