Playing Tama drum sets, one can understand why they are called,
"The Strongest Name in Drums". The company's great drum kits are one of
the most sought after in the business. In 1908, the Hoshino company in
Nagoya, Japan was founded and began importing musical instruments for
the Japanese market. By 1965, Hoshino began production and exporting
their own brand of drums called Star Drums. In 1974, Hoshino took another
great leap into the drum world and began producing drums under the brand
name Tama.
It was the beginning of a new era in the mid-70's with the company's new
revolutionary drum hardware. Solid, strong, and stable, the hardware was well
received and was greatly needed by heavy styled drummers. This innovation
offered double bracing along with thick adaptable attachments. The drum
stands were balanced and absorbed the shocks of playing as were the cymbal
stands which supported the weight of heavy cymbals. This created a drumset
that was virtually unmovable.
Aside from the hardware, much attention was also given to the drums. Tama
established itself as one of the top drum companies in 1976 with the creation of
it's first lacquered, birch Superstar drumsets. These were pro drumsets available
at affordable prices. Other features included larger sets with deeper drums
called power toms that delivered great tones.

of drumming styles. To this day, this innovative company continues to introduce
great drum products, hardware, and drumsets. A good example would be the
Limited Edition Star classic Exotix drum kits. These sets are fashioned of African
bubinga and a very rare Scandinavian birch leaving an exotic appearance.
The drums are complemented with brushed nickel hardware, die-cast hoops,
and the Star Cast mounting system. For a special touch, a hand inlaid center
