Drum set info tips

1- Keep in mind when purchasing a drum set and accessories, the bigger
the set the more gear you'll have to gather if there's the need to transport
2- Before you make that purchase, take the time to research the different
brands and models that will suit your needs
3- Clean your drums with a mild soapy solution if they're a bit dirty
4- Be cautious of extreme weather such as cold , heat, or humidity due to
damage of drum shells and drum heads
5- Paint or engrave your name on the equipment and cases
6-Before buying drum sticks, roll on the counter to make sure they are
straight. If they wobble, look for another pair

Drum lesson info tips

1- If seeking a drum instructor, make a list of questions to ask such as cost
per lesson, style of teaching, and lesson time to see if it will be a match to what
you would like to learn
2- Listening and playing to all styles of music will make you a versatile
drummer
3- Loosen up by stretching and light exercises then warm up by by doing
sticking exercises before the session so that you're relaxed and focused
4- Check your posture. Slouching can be hard on your back after long periods
of time.
5- Take deep breaths and exhale slowly from time to time. This will help with
your focus and relaxation
6- Use protection for your ears. Use earplugs, headphones, or whatever is
comfortable while playing
7- Practice in front of a mirror to observe and if necessary correct your
posture, hand position, and strokes
8- Count out loud when practicing to reinforce where you are and to help
stay in tempo
9- Practice at least 15-20 minutes each day on sticking and rudiments, slowly
and gradually increasing speed then gradually slowing down... repeat


Studio info tips

hihat stand, etc...

3- Practice your part before your session as to minimze studio cost


Band Rehearsal tips

1- Set up rules and guidelines that band members can agree to and follow
so that everyone is on the same page, such as arriving and starting on time,
remember parts to song rehearsed, etc...

Tuning the drum kit tips

1- Make sure the drumhead fits the shell of the drum
2- Do not overtighten the drumhead, the drumhead will crack
3- When tightening, tighten each screw or lug that is directly opposite, in
a criss-cross pattern. Repeat pattern until slack in drumhead is gone
4- Tighten or loosen lugs until you hear the desired pitch
5- When tuning, keep in mind tht bass drum will have the lowest pitch
and the snare drum ususally the highest

Performing info tips

1- When performing onstage, look professional and enjoy what you're
doing

focused
3- Make a list of all your equipment that you'll need to bring to the
gig. Double check before and after the show so that nothing gets left
behind
4- Use protection for your ears. Use earplugs, headphones, or
whatever is comfortable while playing
5- Put together a small tool kit of drum parts, screwdriver, can of
lubricant, etc... for unexpected emergencies
6- Add extra drum heads to your list of equipment to transport for
unexpected tearing
7- Add carpet to your list of equipment to transport. Some venues do
not have carpet on the floors. The carpet will prevent your drum set
moving away from you when playing


Drum cleaning tips

1- Use a mild soapy solution if really dirty. Then buff with a soft cloth
and a mild ploish
2- If not so dirty, just dust with a soft cloth


Cymbal cleaning tips

1- Use a cymbal polish cleaner or glass cleaner and wipe with a cloth
2- Use a mild solution of soapy water to clean cymbal stands and drum
hardware


Drum handling tips

1- Protect your drums with drums cases, heavy blankets, or items that are
available to you
2- To transport cymbal stands, wrap with pieces of carpet, a small blanket,
or any lightweight material to prevent metal to metal contact
3- Use hard or soft cases for cymbals. Whatever you use take extreme care
when transporting

 

Starting a band info tips

1- Find musicians that share the same values, committment, and direction
2- No alcohol or drugs. It doesn't make you a great musician
3- Make it everyone's responsibilty to maintain their chops and musical parts
4- Maintain a good reputation with club owners and other shows where the
